Why become a Mississippi Scholar?

As a high school student the “real world” seems far away. But in reality, the decisions you make today will have a significant impact on where you are years from now.

Mississippi Scholars is about broadening your horizons and offering you a plan for today that will enhance your future. By taking a few extra courses now, you are exposing yourself to a whole new set of options.

Students who graduate with the Mississippi Scholars distinction can expect:

  • To become a stronger candidates for scholarships and certain types of financial aid
  • To gain opportunities for placement and future advancement with employers
  • To develop advanced academic skills and prepare yourself for college

With technology on the rise, the demand for more skilled, knowledgeable workers with a greater capacity to learn is becoming more and more important. Don’t sit back and let your opportunities pass you by. Talk to a parent, teacher or school counselor about what you can do to prepare for the future.

During the four years of the Mississippi Scholars program, I learned time management skills, good study habits, and a wealth of knowledge in various subjects.  After high school graduation, I plan to attend the University of Southern Mississippi and obtain a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education.

To a young student entering the Mississippi Scholars program, I would advise them to make good use of their time and study in order to succeed in the program.
